Even professional tennis players can't escape the putrid smell of marijuana. As reported by USA Today, Number 8 seed Maria Sakkari reported smelling marijuana while eventually losing her match this week in the first round of the U.S. Open being played in New York City. Sakkari surmised that the weed smell was coming from a public park outside the tennis complex adjacent to her court. If professional tennis players competing for a grand slam tournament can't expect clean air, can any of us? The ubiquitous stench of marijuana in every public place must end once and for all!

Ever since marijuana was legalized in several states, it's been increasingly common to smell wafts of weed wherever you are in public. As if cigarette smells weren't annoying enough, now we have to deal with ganja. We, innocent bystanders who choose not to poison our bodies, can't walk down the street without having smoke blown in our faces. Ever walked through midtown Manhattan lately? It's cigarette smoke and marijuana and God knows what else blowing all around the sidewalks. Don't forget about the people on New York subways smoking crack right out in open.

Legalization of marijuana only continues the decay of our society. Whether it's legal to smoke inside one's home, or in some Bohemian cities which allow it in public spaces (but see federal law), the public harm far outweighs any health benefits users maintain.

People complain about everything, but why aren't enough people complaining about marijuana? Your local bar is playing music too loudly? File a noise complaint! Your neighbor painted her door the wrong shade of blue? Ping the HOA! Your food was too cold? Send it back! Your friend wore a Taylor Swift T-shirt to a Taylor Swift concert? Let it slide, you're both Swifties! But when pot is in the air, we couldn't ignore it more if we tried.

Why do we want to live in a world where we can't find any places to escape to relax? Head to the beach, you say. Someone will light up. Go for a walk in the park. That's where people go to buy it! Take a nice drive. The guy in front of me has been toking the whole time! Go for a run in the city. Good luck!

Ok, you got me. I know where I can relax. Let me shell out hundreds of dollars for premiere tickets to an event I know I can get away from the stench for a few hours, the U.S. Open. Wrong again! The bums in the park are lighting up!

Being outside is just like walking through a concert that never ends. Marijuana 24 hours a day.

Our kids are being exposed to this. This is not good. This is not good for us either.

And do you think we are just breathing in marijuana? There have been plenty of reports of marijuana laced with hard drugs including fentanyl. Should we have to walk through a cloud of fentanyl just to pick up a large latte? When do we draw the line?

See that person vaping in the corner when he thinks no one is looking? Chances are you've been exposed to people vaping marijuana. It's like sneak smoking.

I once sat next to a guy on a flight who vaped the entire flight, despite a warning from the flight attendant that he was subjected himself to a $10,000 fine.

The longer we don't say anything, the more marijuana smells will become accepted as a slight nuisance just like cigarette smells started out as. Decades later, they are still bothering people.
