Cleanup in Aisle Two: Publix Policy Banning All but Service Animals is a Victory for Humanity

The recent news that supermarket chain Publix has displayed prominent signage at its stores reminding customers of its long-standing "No Pets except sevice animals" policy ranks up there with Neil Armstrong. Another giant leap for mankind.

Shoppers have enough to pick up at the grocery store as it is. Store employees are constantly sweeping the floor for rogue banana peels and broken pickle jars. Don't turn the produce guy into your dog walker. He's busy enough trying to sneak in text breaks when no one is looking.

A woman in the article above has actually declared that she will boycott Publix because of this policy. Americans sure know how to take a stand!

Having dogs in the grocery store is unsanitary for everyone and unsafe for those with allergies. Big shedders riding in carts will give the next kid an unwanted sweater, worse than the one Aunt Laura got him last Christmas! Dogs have accidents and dogs know few boundaries. When it's time to go, it's time to go, even if it happens to be next to the freshly baked bread. You may think it's cute to see a dog jump up and snatch some croutons from the salad bar, but its owner who remembers where that tongue was just before coming to the store will be buying the premade kit.

Some say dogs are leading stars in horror movies. Imagine a little child making a b-line to the candy aisle before a pit bull rounds the corner. Like playoff football, we all hope to leave before a German Shepherd takes out Grandma's legs.

Pets are already allows on planes. But there are limits and restrictions. Imagine if there weren't? Zoo Airlines would skyrocket in sales. I just wouldn't want to be in line for the bathroom behind that Great Dane.

There are plenty of spaces for pets to roam free. But not at the supermarket. Let's follow the adage prohibiting a certain pastime where you eat.
